CDT presents Converging Works
Converging Works represents the unique collaborative creative process and spirit that defines Convergence Dance Theatre. This latest concert includes new choreography, structured improvisation, and reconstructed work from CDT's past concerts. CDT is a collaborative dance company with 13 active dancers. The evening will include special dance guest artists Willow Chang and Lyanne Brooks and musician Art Koshi. The November 20 and 21 performances feature an engrossing duet, "Tension", extracted from CDT's 2006 collaborative piece "Around the Table", that explored family relationships. "Tension" examines the crushing and paralyzing divergence that can develop from the collapse of communication between two close and connected individuals. In contrast the newly structured "Games", a collaborative dance created by six company members explores the joy and spontaneity in playing and growing together. New choreography highlighting Jennifer Butler Shannon's signature large group piece, features 11 known and up-and-coming local performers; "Social Affiliations" toys with the ebb and flow of individuals need to socialize and derive meaning from social affiliations. "Reactions" by Megan Hagiwara combines the athleticism and dynamic exchange of Capoeira with sympathetic, and at times, tenacious movement to portray the different crossroads couples may chance upon. New work will also be presented by choreographers Roxanne Ingano, Laura Reichhardt, and Honolulu favorite, Meghen L. McKinley.
Led by artistic director Jennifer Butler Shannon, CDT is a small grass roots collaborative modern dance company known for their energetic and athletic dancing. For 6 years they have created and performed emotionally charged choreography and with humorous and often satirical looks at social issues. Each concert presents work from various choreographers joined by a concurrent theme. Converging Works represents the collaborative spirit that fuels CDT's passion for creating new work through process-oriented choreography.
