Victor in Shadow - 11th Hecho en Califas Festival
Proudly commissioned by La Peña Cultural Center and El Teatro Campesino,
"Victor in Shadow" is a dramatic play with live music, based on the life and art of Chilean activist and folksinger Victor Jara. Set in 1973, the play chronicles the hostile coup d'etat that led to the violent installation of dictator Augusto Pinochet and the symbolic and tragic death of the famed folk singer. Through a dynamic combination of live music, movement, and dramatic storytelling, "Victor" seeks to recapture and explore a vivacious yet tumultuous period in Chilean history.
