FRANCESCA AMARI in "Secretly Square" at the Arthur Newman Theatre
Popular cabaret singer Francesca Amari brings her critically acclaimed show "Secretly Square: Guilty Pleasure Songs," to The Arthur Newman Theatre at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert on Saturday, November 20th at 7 PM. Ms Amari's show is presented by Les Michaels as part of his Life Is A Cabaret Concert Series which began there in July and will continue through December but word is it will continue in 2011 due to it's overwhelming success.
"Secretly Square" originally debuted in New York City's famed Metropolitan Room and pays homage to songs from such legendary performers as Johnny Mathis, The Carpenters, Captain & Tennille, Neil Sedaka and more. The show played Palm Springs earlier this year and at the Gardenia in LA. With a wide range and expressive vocal skills, Francesca delivers her music with both sophisticated taste and sometimes, broad humor with the songs you love, yet hate to admit you do.
Amari has made a name for herself in the Midwest and New York City, but now resides in San Diego and recently returned from a 2-month run of the Arizona premiere of the hit musical, "Midlife! The Crisis Musical" and appeared last year in concert with Broadway star Karen Mason and cabaret legend Andrea Marcovicci; and at the prestigious 2008 Lyrics and Lyricists Concert Series.
Her 2008 CD release of "Better Days," has received National recognition for Best Jazz CD, Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Jazz song. Joining Francesca Amari for the November 20th date will be local musical director Joel Baker who recently returned from a summer-long gig in Maine. Tickets for the show are $10 cash only at the door, and reservations are encouraged by calling 760-325-2731. Show time is 7 PM and the box office opens at 6 PM.
