Burchfield Penney Art Gallery Tour - The Work of Alexander O. Levy
Nancy Spector is a member of the 2015 Burchfield Penney Art Center docent class and a 1979 graduate of Cornell University. In this tour Nancy will introduce the work of Alexander O. Levy, a prominent Buffalo area artist from 1909 through his death in 1947. Levy worked as art director for the Matthews-Northrup Company and then for the Larkin Soap Company during the period of its greatest corporate growth. He also painted many commissioned portraits, scenes of everyday life, and landscapes. Participants will have also an opportunity to have a conversation about Levy's depictions of gender, race and ethnicity.
