Beerthoven Concert Series
The Beerthoven Concert Series
Austin Saengerrunde presents the Beerthoven Concert Series: an intimate, experimental take on house-concert style concerts featuring appetizers, beer/wine, and some of Austin's own up-and-coming classical musicians.
Saturday, March 28th at 2:30pm, two great Austin Saengerrunde events will be combined for an afternoon filled with musical and edible refreshments. The New Braunfels Gemischter Chor Harmonie will come to join the Saengerrunde choirs in a performance of Schubert's Deutsche Messe under the direction of Chris Oelkers.
In addition, chamber groups featuring highly skilled instrumentalists from the University of Texas will present Mozart's Serenade No. 12 in C Minor, K. 388 and other chamber works ala the Beerthoven Concert Series.
Saengerrunde Pianist Daniel Swayze, Director of the Beerthoven Concert Series, has arranged for the Schubert Mass to be performed with its original accompaniment; an ensemble of eleven wind instruments including clarinets, oboes, bassoons and low brass. Members of UT's prestigious Trombone Choir will open the show with works by Bach and Mozart, followed by a woodwind octet featuring the Mozart Serenade. Like the popular string quartet, Mozart's Serenade in C Minor sometimes carries the nickname "Night Music." This form was popular at the time at sociable events, however Mozart's work defies genre and contains all the drama that one might find in his later operas. Brass and woodwinds will then combine to accompany the Schubert Mass; a highly sacred work reflecting the solemnity of a Catholic service.
Like in previous Beerthoven events, all refreshments will be included in admission and enjoyed throughout the show. $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
