Music by SKUMBAAG with
As a continuation of their 20th anniversary extravaganza/fiasco, Albuquerque's Skümbaag will perform one night only in October 23rd, 2010 at the Madcap Theaters in downtown Tempe, Arizona.
Skümbaag's musical genre is self-described as "avant-garde heavy-metal vaudeville" or "all the spoo that fits." Nu-City's Mike Henningsen said "…tongue-in-cheek has rarely been performed with such precision and grace..." while a recent patron of their performance at the Steel Bridge Songfest in Wisconsin characterized them as "completely suck-ass." Much of Skümbaag's musical humor, parody, and satire is combined with an aggressive metal-tinged style. The band is also greatly influenced by the work of 20th century masters such as Cage, Varese, and Stravinsky. All this, combined with a history of international pop music styles, self-indulgent stage antics, and low-budget costumery, make for a unique musical and theatrical experience. Phoenix's critically acclaimed Boys and Frogs will open. Tickets $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
