Deathtrap -- Cambria Center of the Arts Theatre Adventure -- Elaine Fournier
This course is a collaboration between LLCC and the Cambria Center of the Arts Theatre. You'll enjoy a matinee performance of the Cambria Center of the Arts Theatre production of "Deathtrap", followed by a talkback - led by longtime theater actor and volunteer, Elaine Fournier. The Play:
One of the great popular successes of recent Broadway history, this ingeniously constructed play offers a rare and skillful blending of two priceless theatrical ingredientsgasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. Dealing with the devious machinations of a writer of thrillers whose recent offerings have been flops, and who is prepared to go to any lengths to improve his fortunes, it provides twists and turns and sudden shocks in such abundance that audiences will be held spellbound until the very last moment. "It is a classic thriller, a genre with a style, a manner and an audience of its own. If you like thrillers, do see it. I promise you that it is vintage." NY Post. "The intricately fashioned plot contortions brought gasps, the comedy lines drew delighted chortles" The Hollywood Reporter. "Two-thirds a thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedySuspend your disbelief and be delighted. Scream a little. It's good for you." Cue Magazine. "If you care to assassinate yourself with laughter, try DEATHTRAP." Time Magazine. The talkback: A talkback is a post-show informal conversation with members of the play's backstage team. Led by Elaine Fournier, along-time local theater contributor and director of Deathtrap, this is a chance to learn about direction, acting, set design, and lighting direction. You may ask any questions about the show or artistic process and gain more of an insight into how the theater works. Elaine Fournier has a Master's in English with a dramatic literature emphasis. She taught theatre appreciation, acting, dramatic literature and film at Cuesta College, and taught English composition at Cal Poly and Hancock College. Elaine has also been with SLO Little Theatre since she was 15 years-old and was a dancer in Oklahoma! at the Madonna Inn. She moved through the ranks to become a choreographer, an actor and a director. She has been on the Board of the Little Theatre for the last four years, with several other four-year termsin her past. Currently she serves on the Board's Artistic Advisory Committee that chooses the plays for the season. She is also a Lifetime Member, an honorific for years of service.
