This year's Farm Food Fork event will focus on the issue of sustainable local meat production. More info on the event canbe found at www.farmfoodfork.com The event is being held on March 27th at the Spirit Bar @ The Hume Hotel, Nelson, BC. The day is split into two parts.
STEAKHOLDER FORUM : Friday March 27th @ The Spirit Bar, Nelson : 9am - 4.30pm The STEAKholders daytime event invites anyone involved in food or the local economy to attend, including farmers, economists, policy makers, funders, chefs, butchers and activists. The aim is to dig deeper into the issues we face in our local region and identify solutions and actions that will enable our local meat production and economy to grow in a sustainable way. The event includes a delicious BBQ lunch.
STEAKEATER FEAST : Friday March 27th @ The Spirit Bar, Nelson : 5.30pm - 9.30pm The evening event will invite STEAKeaters to find out about whole animal dining by indulging in an offal feast, and enjoying a live butchery session and cooking demos. Attendees will learn about the challenges of sustainable local meat production through keynote presentations, short 'grassFED Talks' and films.
In addition, our keynote speaker Felix Schellenberg and his wife Jasmine will be running related workshops on Saturday March 28th. Please note these workshops will now be held at Tulaberry Farm, NOT White Crow Farm as originally advertised.
ROTATIONAL GRAZING WITH FELIX SCHELLENBERG : Saturday March 28th @ Tulaberry Farm in Passmore : 10am - 12.30pm Join experienced rancher Felix Schellenberg from Rafter 25 Ranch in the field as he discusses the ins and outs of rotational grazing; covering a variety of topics from perimeter and interior fencing, irrigation, water for stock, supplementation, animal health, forage substitution, stockmanship, animal handling and much more. During the workshop, you will learn how rotational grazing can improve the biodiversity of your land, and the quality of your soil and pasture.
BIODYNAMICS AND THE 7 PREPARATIONS WITH JASMINE SCHELLENBERG : Saturday March 28th @ Tulaberry Farm in Passmore : 2pm - 4.30pm Jasmine Schellenberg has been farming biodynamically on Rafter 25 Ranch since 2000. During the workshop, she will provide a general introduction into biodynamics, then explore the seven foundational preparations used in biodynamic agriculture. In addition, she'll share other complimentary practices used on their farm and ranch to build healthy soil and food. After some classroom work, you move outdoors and go through the process of applying the preparations in the field.
