La Madeleine! April in Paris
A unique blend of French folk songs and ballads, and Celtic fiddle tunes, La Madeleine performs the songs of Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Georges Moustaki, Gilles Vigneault and a variety of other French and French Canadian artists, along with a mix of accordion and fiddle-driven celtic instrumentals.
Madeleine St. Amant Madeleine grew up in the villages of rural Quebec and was inspired by her mom, who was inclined to belt out Piaf tunes while she mopped the floor. Despite her remarkable vocal quality, she is not a trained singer. She quite simply offers up each song to her audiences with a refreshingly unaffected passion and warmth. Madeleine has performed for decades doing American jazz, folk and pop music but has always been drawn to the songs of her youth in Canada.
Chip Harding Chip's career as a band leader, singer/songwriter and recording artist spans four decades. His original songs have received airplay throughout the US and Canada. He and Madeleine raised their three sons playing hundreds of events, from New York to Boston to Camden, Maine, with their function band, Baby Grand. Chip plays guitar and piano and sings with La Madeleine.
Carl Pehrsson Besides playing accordion with La Madeleine, Carl has worked extensively as a piano player with groups like The Beach Cowboys, The Busters, Crosswinds Jazz Quintet, Jen Thayer and Chronic Jazz Syndrome. He plays frequently at The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH and at private events as a solo jazz pianist. Carl is a fine songwriter, and has released recordings of his original work.
Emily Barbour Though Emily is still a student at Berwick Academy, she has a growing resume as a versatile and accomplished violinist. She has played in The York County Honors Festival, the 2014 Maine All-State Orchestra, and the Phillips Exeter Symphony. Emily is a regular at The Lyceum Music Festival in Midway, Utah, where she played with The Piano Guys. Emily is in increasing demand as a soloist at weddings and functions.
Melissa Waterhouse Melissa was a founding member of the group. She has recorded and performed throughout the US , both as a soloist and as an ensemble player. Her training includes extensive studies of classical violin in New York and Celtic fiddle techniques in Boston and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
