Gowanus Canal Conservancy Third Annual Fall Beer Tasting & Fundraiser

The Gowanus Canal Conservancy will be hosting its third annual fall beer tasting and fundraiser on Wednesday November 3, 2010 from 7-9:30pm. This event is presented by, Kelso of Brooklyn, Kelly Taylor and Sonya Giacobbe and chef, entrepreneur and Brooklyn-native Michael Ayoub. It will take place at Fornino Restaurant, at 256 Fifth Avenue between Carroll St. and Garfield Pl. Kelso Beer will be providing matched parings with Forino's artisanal pizzas. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke will speak on her previous support and discuss future goals for the canal.
The event will also feature a short video from Frontline producer Aaron Ernst, featuring Gowanus Canal Conservancy Chairman Andrew Simons and volunteers at a recent Clean & Green event, talk about the organization, the unique charm of the area surrounding the canal, and efforts being made to restore it to its former glory.
This fundraiser will support our monthly Clean & Green events that run from April through October. Last month brought together over 100 volunteers to remove trash, plant new trees and flowers, install bird and bats houses all of which reinvigorates the banks of the Gowanus. The funds will also assist in developing our educational programs, grant making for Sponge Park, a long-term vision for the banks of the Gowanus, and assist in our participation in Superfund dialogues.
The Gowanus Canal Conservancy, an independent environmental 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2006 whose mission is to be steward for the preservation, restoration and green development of the Gowanus Canal and its environs for the greater good of the community.
