Celtic Concert 2015
The Story People Of Clallam County present the annual Celtic Concert. This year we will be at the P.A. Community Playhouse.
Bagpiper Tom McCurdy will give us a brief rousing opening.
Our favorite MC -- Pat Peterson -- will host the evening. She will introduce singer/guitarists Michael Rivers and Dan Cobb, who will intersperse their musical offerings between the storytellers.
We have a great lineup of storytellers this year, Allison Cox, Ingrid Nixon, and James The Obscure.
Refreshments will be served at intermission.
Allison Cox - was featured two years at Ethnic Fest where she shared Celtic tales from her own heritage. Through song, humor and tales of universal experiences, Allison Cox offers stories that touch the heart, heal the soul and celebrate our diversity. Allison has been telling stories professionally for over 20 years. As a Prevention Specialist for the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department, Allison tells stories for health promotion, disease prevention and community building. She is editor/author of The Healing Heart ~ Families: Storytelling to Encourage Caring and Healthy Families and The Healing Heart ~ Communities: Storytelling to Build Strong and Healthy Communities. Allison has performed at multicultural celebrations telling stories from African, Hispanic, Asian and Native American traditions.
Ingrid Nixon - For over two decades, Ingrid Nixon's work in expedition tourism has propelled her about the planet: from Antarctica to Greenland, Madagascar to Easter Island. While traveling, she shares stories such as the epic adventures of Antarctic explorers, like Sir Ernest Shackleton. She also gleans new stories from the people, places and the natural world. She has written, hosted and/or narrated numerous films about national parks and won several national awards for her work. Ingrid grew up in Port Angeles and is a member of the Story People.
J Dean Hodgson - past President of the Board of Directors of The Story People Of Clallam County, has been a storyteller for decades. He inhabits the name and character James The Obscure as a storyteller and is a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. James has a "deep respect for ancient tales, the old stories which show us the values and customs of the people who are long gone. The ancient tales connect us to deep magic and skin-changing, and to the magic of the power of the words."
Michael Rivers discovered songwriting during his first serious high school crush. Neither the crush or the song endured, but he has been writing ever since! Educated at Valparaiso University in Indiana and at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Michael learned to create melodies, harmonies and lyrics to tell his stories of life and faith. Best known on the peninsula as the founding director of the Peninsula Men's Gospel Singers, now in their 14th season, Michael has performed in countless churches on the peninsula. He has worked as a worship leader and currently works as a vocal coach, instructing more than a dozen vocal students of all ages and abilities. Michael is delighted to be included in this year's Celtic Concert.
Dan Cobb and his wife moved from Seattle to Port Angeles in 2000, after Dan took a job teaching general music in the Port Angeles elementary schools. Dan's love for singing began in middle school and continued through high school and college. At Central Washington University, Dan participated in many forms of singing: opera, barbershop, chamber, jazz, madrigal and gospel. Besides spending time with his wife and three children, Dan likes to play disc golf, all kinds of games, and has performed in an occasional community theatre production, as an actor/singer. In addition to reading in several reader's theater productions, Dan starred in the Port Angeles Playhouse production of Foxfire in 2001.
Pat Peterson - Pat is the emcee par excellence, bringing pure joy to the audience's storytelling experience as she cajoles and guides the performers to bring forth their finest work. An accomplished actress and storyteller, Pat sets the stage with grace, warmth and deliciously naughty humor.
