Berkeley Choro San Jose Home Concert
Berkeley Choro Ensemble returns to San Jose for a second home concert, featuring Jane Lenoir, flute, Harvey Wainapel, clarinet, Ricardo Peixoto, 7-string Brazilian guitar, Brian Rice, percussion and pandeiro. We will be performing a preview of our Berkeley Hillside Club Concert scheduled for March 20th. Please join us in this charming vintage Bungalow in San Jose's Rose Garden neighborhood for an evening of Brazilian music. Selections will include music by Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolin, Jobim, Ricardo Peixoto, Harvey Wainapel and more. This style of music is a synthesis of European classical music popular in Brazil in the 19th Century and Afro Brazilian rhythm. Today, Brazilian Choro music is experiencing a new wave of popularity, with Paquito D'Rivera, Yo Yo Ma and other well-known jazz and classical musicians celebrating Brazilian music as part of the repertoire. In May, 2015 Berkeley Choro Ensemble will perform at the Berkeley Fetival of Choro at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, joining forces with the magnificient Trio Brasileiro from Brazil.
