Marcus Shelby Trio with Tiffany Austin
Marcus Shelby is an accomplished composer, arranger, bassist, and educator. His dazzling biography includes: Bandleader of Columbia Records; GRP Impulse! Recording Artists Black/Note; and is currently leader of the MSJO, a dynamic big band. You must be there!
Shelby received composing commissions for major works: Soul of the Movement"a 12 part suite on MLK; and "Harriet Tubman." He's also written dance scores for "Bebop Baby", "Sonny's Blues", and others. He's a Yerba Buena Gardens Festival artist in residence; winner of the Charles Mingus Scholarship; teacher at the Stanford Jazz Workshop; and music director of the Healdsburg Jazz Festival. Unmatched credentials and amazing!
Playing with Marcus are Joe Warner (piano) and Tim Angulo (drums), and featuring Tiffany Austin.
Tiffany Austin is a Los Angeles-born vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, and U.C. Berkeley law graduate whose musical career has spanned three continents. She has performed in cities across the country and the globe at venues such as Yoshi's (SF), Stern Grove, SFJAZZ, Skirball Cultural Center (Los Angeles), Motion Blue (Japan), and Jazz at Lincoln Center (NY). During her extensive vocal career, she has worked with many eminent artists, including Roy Ayers, John Handy, bassist/composer Marcus Shelby, saxophone player/drummer Howard Wiley, and the Japanese composer of "Kill Bill" fame, Tomoyasu Hotei.
