Multi-percussionist Steven Kroon's sound, Latin; R&B; Jazz, is as diverse as the borough, Brooklyn, which honed his talents.  Steven was a student under the great saxophonist Bill Barron (older brother of pianist Kenny Barron) at Brooklyn Children's Museum's jazz workshop, know as 'The Muse' at the time.  Steve was a presence during the Brooklyn club scene of the 70's and performed with some of the borough's most sought after musicians such Stanley Banks, Carlos Garnett and jazz great James Spaulding.  Kroon also performed with Luther Vandross and Ron Carter among others.  His latest CD, "El Mas Alla" features some of the performers who will join Steven's sextet for CBJC's anniversary celebration.  They are: Bryan Carrott, vibes; Craig Rivers, sax/flute; Igor Atalita, piano; Reuben Rodriguez, bass; Diego Lopez, drums and Steve on congas.

Q City Soundz is a project of the not for profit Quest Youth Organization based in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn  Quest operates after school music programs at The Stephen Decatur School (M. S. 35).  For over 18 years this community educational company provided middle and high school students an opportunity to study, practice and learn the history of Jazz.

MoCADA is a cultural institution located in the James E. Davis Arts Building in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.  Laurie A. Cumbo founded the museum in 1999 to foster a greater awareness and appreciation of the arts and culture of the African Diaspora as it relates to contemporary urban issues.
Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium's chairman Jitu K. Weusi will present Ms. Cumbo with its Founders Day Award during its anniversary celebration.

CBJC produces the Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival which has grow from a nine day neighborhood event to a highly anticipated month-long, borough wide music series.  This event takes place in the borough that has produced a number of jazz greats including Lena Horne, Max Roach and Randy Weston, and is now the longest continuous running festival dedicated to jazz in New York City.  The 12th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival will take place April 1-30, 2011 from Coney Island to Williamsburgh neighborhoods in Brooklyn
