Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi
Verismo Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece, Rigoletto, which contains two of the most famous pieces in all opera. Verdi had a difficult time just getting the opera to the stage because of the risque subject matter and tried to keep the stunning arias a secret short of not even giving the tenor the full score, but the gondoliers were singing it in the canals well before opening night.
Verismo Opera company presents opera for the community at affordable prices. Performances are in a classical chamber music setting that provides an intimate dramatic feeling with a distinctive personal touch. Standing ovations from the audience are frequent at their performances.
The Duke of Mantua seduces women while his hunchbacked Jester, Rigoletto, insults the husbands and fathers. The joke goes too far when a curse falls upon Rigoletto's innocent daughter, Gilda. An assassin and seductress are added to the mix. Will Gilda's love for the Duke bring down the curse upon them all?
