Peter Mulvey & Jeffrey Foucault
Peter Mulvey thrilled local audiences at the Arcata Playhouse last fall. This time around he is bringing his friend Jeffrey Foucault to play on a double bill for a special show that will premiere UpStage-Live, a new show that shines the spotlight on the creative voice. Hosted by Mike Dronkers of KHUM radio the live web streamed and KHUM broadcast show will feature interviews with the artists as well as their performances.
Peter Mulvey is an intelligent, thoughtful songwriter with incredible guitar mastery and a mellifluous voice. Critical acclaim for Mulvey is consistent and enthusiastic in the States and overseas. He is touring the west coast in support of his latest album, Letters from a Flying Machine – which is richly acoustic, and puts Mulvey's nimble guitar front and center, framing it with contributions from several key associates. Peter was also featured in the Fall 2010 issue of Rails to Trails. For the past three years, he has traveled to many of the 120 shows he performs each year by bicycle, bringing his distinct take on American folk music to destinations throughout his home state of Wisconsin—and beyond. Joining Peter is his long time friend and fellow troubadour Jeffrey Foucault. An exceptional sing-songwriter in his own right, Foucault incorporates the best of the Americana, alt-country and roots-rock genres into his music. He has been compared to Bruce Springsteen in the pre-"Born to Run" days as well as the best of the Texas troubadours, including Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. But there's nothing derivative about Foucault's haunting allusions and unique character voice. Musically, Foucault has created a harmonious minimalist sound that's driven by his acoustic strumming and richly literate songs.
"Jeffrey Foucault, sings stark, literate songs that are as wide open as the landscape of his native Midwest."

Be a part of a new and unique community experience as Upstage-Live host, KHUM DJ and Music Director Mike Dronkers, guides us through an intimate evening with these two outstanding creative voices. The audience will be treated to the musical talents of Peter and Jeffrey as well as a live interview with the artists as they share insight into their individual journeys of creative expression.
As part of our live studio audience, you'll experience the vision and artistry of people who inspire us with their passion and connect us through their stories. Audience members will have an opportunity to submit a question for the artists that may be used part of the show.
"Upstage-Live is about brain catnip. We want to get people thinking by bridging the gap between creator and audience.", is how Mike Dronkers, the host of the new show, describes the event.
This show will be broadcast live on KHUM radio and streamed live on-line all over the world and is sponsored by Humboldt Folklife Society and KHUM radio.
