In 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, founded what is now Earth Day. Since 1970, the torch of environmental (and sustainability) leadership has passed from the federal and state government to the private sector, and many businesses now play crucial roles in responding to both environmental and social challenges.
The WI Sustainable Business Council, in partnership with Cool Choices and the WI Manufacturing Extension Partnership will present a morning workshop on the development and use of sustainability metrics. This will be followed by the Earth Day Sustainable Business Awards Ceremony over lunch.
The morning workshop will feature presentations on the development of sustainability metrics, the collection of data, the transformation of data into information and the use of sustainability information to shape the behavior of business.
The awards that will be presented over lunch are designed to recognize businesses for their efforts in developing innovative products, processes, and business models.
Small businesses will compete separately from larger businesses for each of the awards. There are three awards: Sustainable Leadership Award, Sustainable Product of the Year, and Sustainable Process of the Year.
