When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, sometimes I yearn for the days when all photography
required time, and when all the colors really were deeper and more permanent. After the shutter clicked there
was a wait, from one hour to days or even weeks, while alchemical magic happened, often with wands waved by
the Great Yellow Fatherâ"Kodakâ"until poof, the anxiously-awaited reveal! Kodachrome was first made in the
1930s until Kodak stopped making Kodachrome in 2009. Prized for both the "nice bright colors" and its
incredible archival qualitiesâ"unlike most color film, many fifty-year-old Kodachrome slides and movies are still
vibrant. Now, the last place on earth that processes Kodachrome, Dwayneâs Photo in Parsons, Kansas,
announced itâll stop processing Kodachrome in December 2010. Our screening pays homage to this beloved film
stock with experimental Kodachrome works by local luminaries including Bridget Irish, Joaquin de la Puente,
Jason Gutz, and others, sprinkled with some brilliantly-hued home movies, to give you one last glance at the way
we dreamed we were.
