Punk rock and active practice of the Muslim faith -- you'd probably think that these two ways of life
are mutually exclusive, right? Well, meet the young Muslim punk rockers who identify with the term
Taqwacore. Inspired by the novel of the same name, a loose online community forms, and in 2007
they decided to road trip to a Muslim youth convention, picking up various members' bands along the
way. The documentary comes along on the trip, introducing the different musicians who relate their
own stories of navigating their way through a North America where they are "a minority of a minority",
and capturing their joy of finally discovering community among others like themselves. After that trip,
the film then follows members of the Boston unit "The Kominas" as they journey to Pakistan to gain
greater understanding of themselves, Islam, and the possibilities of their art.
