A documentary which begins with the explosion at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959. That explosion is
François Truffaut's 400 Blows. This movie created a corpse of the French cinema and stared with
arrogant, delinquent eyes into the face of itâs audience. The audacity and vitality of the French New
Wave is put into the context of the origins and relationship of two of its biggest players François
Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. This amazingly thorough survey of la Nouvelle Vague unrelentingly
shoots its way through three decades of French cinema, and indeed, the movement that made world
cinema history. This documentary is great for the uninitiated, as well as the fans and the practitioners of
la Nouvelle Vague.
