THE LOBSTER AND THE LIVER: THE UNIQUE WORLD OF JIM WOODRING / Dir.
Jonathan Howells / 2010 / Canada / 93 min. / Digital Video
Most people call Jim Woodring a cartoonist, but the multi-faceted artist is more like a magician.
Woodring's cartoons chart a course through some of the most surreal imagery ever seen in any artistic
medium. While his work may speak in the language of dreams, Woodring's life has often led him into
nightmarish territory. Jim spent his early years sleeping in the dirt; eating out of dumpsters and
drinking a lot. Friends and family reveal personal stories about his degenerate youth. The Lobster and
the Liver follows the quirks and eccentricities of this unique artist, and draws a story of his life that can
be appreciated by anyone. Director in attendance for Q&A.
