Nation
Before Arizona's controversial SB 1070, there was Oklahoma's HB 1804. Passed in 2007, this antiillegal-immigration law was so strict, it even made giving a ride to someone you suspected of being in
the U.S. illegally a felony offense. A timely and provocative documentary, Panic Nation jumps into the
immigration debates through the lens of the Oklahoma law, from its inspiration and debate surrounding
its passage to its after-effects. Additionally, interviews with journalists, farmers, Hispanic/Latino
activists, government officials, and others, including several undocumented immigrants, explode the
myths surrounding the issue and attempt to correct the rampant misinformation ever-swirling around
the issue. Given how prominent this issue is likely to remain in our current political environment, this
teach-in on the multiple viewpoints of the players in this issue should not be missed.
