GOSSIP & THE NEED: LIVE SHOW
In honor of Penelope Spheeris, feminism, and the ever-queering nature of punk, we welcome the
legendary GOSSIP and THE NEED! Olympia/Portland duo THE NEED released their last album in
2000, with their unforgettable record The Need is Dead. If you missed it the first time around, then you
must see this band! The revolution of Rachel Carns crouched like a panther, stalking then attacking her
drums; Radio Sloans epic lock-step guitar riffs; and their otherworldly vibrating vocals make THE
NEED a cult-classic. The GOSSIP, currently of Portland, Oregon, an Olympia legend since 1999, still
retain the southern charm of their home-state Arkansas. They played queer dance party-punk in
Olympia basements and recorded with hometown labels K Records & Kill Rock Stars on their path to
fame. With the breakthrough success of their 2006 record Standing in the Way of Control, and the
subsequent Rick Rubin-produced Music For Men, the GOSSIP won fans and critical acclaim while
becoming tabloid targets/darlings in the international music scene. Like a beacon burning hot and
bright, Beth Ditto has become a feminist icon and inspiration, simply by shamelessly being herself.
