SLOW U: Chocolate...Good, Clean, and Fair
Learn about the Kallari cooperative and good, clean, and fair chocolate. Enjoy world class chocolate paired with specially selected wines and spirits provided by your host, Union Square Wines & Spirits. Kallari is the only cooperative of family farmers in the world that harvests, markets, and enjoys all the profits from its organic chocolates. Kallari is produced by a coalition of 850 indigenous Kichwa farmers in the Napo region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, where cacao first originated. Kallari chocolate, produced at the source exclusively from native cacao varieties, is flavorful and delicate, with an extended finish and hints of fruit. You will learn about Kallari and chocolate making while you enjoy a blind tasting of European, American, and cacao producing nation chocolates, ranging from 65 percent to 90 percent cacao. Kallari is an Slow Food International Presidium product.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the programs and activities of Slow Food including the Urban Harvest programs of good food education for kids.
