Nerd Nation
A show about the evolution (not creation, because nerds believe in science) of Dhaya's nerd identity...and the heartbreaking and funny stories of nerds across America... and the role of true nerds (beware the posers) in modern times.
"I was a skinny brown kid whose physicist dad moved us to Birmingham, Alabama. How could I not get bullied for being smart? But nerds are all amongst us now. We have arrived ... Well kind of. We are still a country where Kim Kardashian will always have more name recognition than Neil deGrasse Tyson. Booty still cannot compete with astrophysics, although the sun will always be hotter than Kim."
A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a former management consultant and an ex-venture capitalist, Dhaya is also an award-winning comedian and storyteller. She is the host of the monthly Moth StorySlam at Public Works in San Francisco and has performed at San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Boston Comedy Festival, and the Women in Comedy Festival in Boston. The Bay Guardian named her "Best Comedian" of 2013 in their Readers' Poll. Her other credits include winning Comedy Central Asia's "Ultimate Comedy Challenge" and ON24's virtual comedy competition. She hosted the first season of the Emmy-winning series High School Quiz Show on WGBH and is a favorite on NPR's storytelling series Snap Judgment.
