"In that Time In this Time: from Monteverdi to Whitacre"
For its spring concerts the award-winning Lakeville music organization Crescendo will present "In That Time In This Time: Monteverdi to Whitacre." It is a program of sacred works by the early Baroque composers Claudio Monteverdi (a 6-voice mass In illo tempore), his German counterpart Christoph Demantius (motets) and works by the world-renowned contemporary American composer Eric Whitacre known for his music's luminous beauty and harmonic richness.
Crescendo's founder and Artistic Director Christine Gevert notes: "These works are separated by centuries, and though the harmonic language and composition style used by these composers is, as you would expect, contrasting, the intensity and the introspective spiritual beauty of the works is very close."
She will direct the Crescendo Chorus and Vocal Ensemble who will perform both 'a cappella' (without accompaniment) and with a Basso Continuo group of period instrument players from Boston and New York.
