The Quickies Festival: Short Plays About Sex
San Francisco based production company PianoFight teams with the Playwrights' Center of San Francisco for a festival of short plays about sex, The Quickies Festival, premiering October 14th, and running Thursdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 4:00pm through October 28th, 2010, in the Off-Market Theater, 965 Mission Street between 5th and 6th. Tickets are $20 at the door and online at www.pianofight.com.
After residing in a number of different venues over the last few years, Playwrights' Center finally found a home at Off-Market in 2009 and began running workshops and readings out of the venue. After seeing numerous staged readings written by Playwrights' Center writers, PianoFight proposed a co-production with the group as a means to help the organization jump the gap from readings to full productions. As the mission of PCSF is to "encourage and develop local playwrights" it seemed a natural fit to work with PianoFight who's mission is "New work by new artists." Thus the Quickies Festival was born.
The Quickies Festival will feature seven one act plays, all dealing with sex in some fashion, penned by PCSF writers Andrew Black, Tom Bruett, Bob Hayden, Daniel Heath, Steve Koppman, Bridgette Portman and Kirsten Smith. The directing, headed by Claire Rice, includes Liz Anderson, Julia Heitner, Wylie Herman and Neil Higgins. The cast includes PianoFight company members in addition to up and coming talents from the San Francisco indie theater scene. Rob Ready and Dan Williams round out the team as producers.
Playwrights' Center of San Francisco was established in 1980 as a forum for playwrights to get together and hear their work read. Over the last 30 years it has grown to a membership organization that offers a number of successful programs that offer support and feedback to new and experienced playwrights alike and provides opportunities for actors and directors as well. Most of the playwrights in the organization have had their work produced around the country and in some cases the world. The focus at PCSF is to help playwrights learn the critical skills necessary to hone their craft, while providing an open, semi-formal but relaxed and friendly environment to develop new local work.
PianoFight Productions is and SF-based production company which is a co-owner/operator of Off-Market Theaters. Founded by Rob Ready and Dan Williams, PianoFight has produced original works, premiered all-new shows, created and developed an online web series, and cut numerous short films, all the while remaining true to its commitment of producing new work by new artists.
