AIA Long Beach | South Bay: Kinetic Architecture in a Coastal Climate
This program will discuss kinetic architecture and passive cooling in a coastal climate. This program will include a presentation on various systems and materials that can be utilized in a modern design, custom residence, allowing for a transformative space while maintaining an energy-efficient envelope. This program will take place at a custom home construction site where the participants will be able to see firsthand these various systems and how they work together.
Learning Objective 1: Participants will learn about cross-linked polyethylene water supply piping (PEX) and its advantages in a modern design over standard metal pipe or rigid plastic pipe.
Learning Objective 2: Participants will learn about vapor permeable water resistive barriers and air barrier membranes for use with open joint cladding systems.
Learning Objective 3: Participants will learn about Fiber - Cement board for external use.
Learning Objective 4: Participants will learn about structural insulated panels (SIP) and its advantages in a modern design over traditional dimensional lumber.
Learning objective 5: Participants will learn about Fire sprinkler systems in residential projects.
Learning objective 6: Participants will learn about "ductless" Mini-split heat pump systems.
CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY Cancellations made at least one week prior to the program will be refunded in full, less all processing and transaction fees.
