Oakland Youth Chorus' 40th Anniversary Spring Concert
Celebrate Oakland Youth Chorus' 40-year legacy of diversity in harmony with our 40th annual Spring Concerts.
At 3:00pm, OYC's Kindergarten through 3rd grade Miracle Chorus ensembles from 11 school and community sites delight the audience with their own concert full of joyful, eclectic music including the premiere of En El Sol, a work by Alexandra Sessler (teaching artist with the San Francisco Opera Guild). Ms. Sessler's composition was gifted to OYC by the Andy S. Way Music Foundation. Other songs include Gomo Guru, He Mele No Lilo, Let's Go Fly a Kite and Straighten Up and Fly Right.
At 6:00pm, OYC's Chamber Singers, Concert Chorus, Middle School ensembles and 3rd-5th grade Miracle Choruses from Oakland and other East Bay communities are joined by OYC's Decades Choir, featuring singers from OYC's past and present, including alumni singers, former conductors, staff and board members. In addition to songs brought back from OYC's 40 years of incredible concerts, we will premiere "Oakland Song", a commissioned work by OYC alumna, Valerie Troutt.
Join the singers past and present of Oakland Youth Chorus to celebrate spring and four decades of friendships, songs, community, and creating harmony through diversity in Oakland and the East Bay.
