Children's Stories from India
In this program Zaraawar Mistry performs stories illustrating the type of stories he heard during his childhood in India. The flexible, modular format includes stories about Akbar and Birbal and tales from the Panchatantra. Interwoven into the cultural aspects of the storytelling are a series of questions and clever riddles that encourage children to learn about geography, history, immigration, adoption and creative puzzle solving. Greg Herriges provides live musical accompaniment on the guitar, bouzouki (Greek lute) and zither.
Children's Stories from India has been performed for elementary age students at several schools and libraries in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the surrounding suburbs. It has also been enjoyed by family audiences at institutions such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and at outdoor venues such as Caponi Art Park and Dreamacres farm. The program is featured in the Global Arts and Culture series of the COMPAS/Young Audiences of Minnesota roster. The program is about 45 minutes in duration and is ideal for families and children ages 5+, although all ages are welcome.
