Season Finale
In May, led by former Seattleite, Darko Butorac, OSSCS returns to the innovative programming of diverse, diverting, and delightfully deserving works both new and old for which we are known. Our ensembles have enjoyed performing opera choruses together, and this year we'll feature some of the most famous, including Giuseppe Verdi's "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" from Nabucco. Our final concert also features a world premiere: Cantata to the Moon by Seattle composer Kia (Carol) Sams. Kia has written a huge amount of choral music, numerous operas (many performed by OSSCS), a symphony, and is currently working on a viola concerto for next season! This cantata is based on some of her favorite texts concerning one of our favorite orbs. Violinist Ronald Patterson, who has presented so many wonderful solo performances with OSSCS will play the joyous and moving Concerto No. 1 for Violin and Orchestra by Max Bruch, and the concert will conclude with one of the most famous romantic symphonies: The Rhenish Symphony (Symphony No. 3) of Robert Schumann. This magnificent five-movement work is considered by many to be the crowning achievement of Schumann's career. What a concert!
