Two Concertos
Alastair Willis leads OSSCS in a concert of rare gems. We open with Wagner's Overture to "The Flying Dutchman". Next, one of our favorite piano soloists, Mark Salman, joins us for a performance of the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Franz Liszt, who is one of Mark's favorite composers. Following Mark, we feature the World Premiere of Seattle composer Robert Kechley's Bassoon Concerto, commissioned and performed by OS Principal Bassoonist, Judith Lawrence. Bob has included chorus in the concerto, and the work will be filled with his signature delightful rhythms, invigorating tunes, and colorful orchestrations. A new Bob Kechley piece more an event than a performance! The chorus is featured in the a capella work by English composer Herbert Howells, "Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing", and we end with the supremely beautiful "Toward the Unknown Region" by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
