Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble performs "Sure on this Shining Night" Oct. 9th
"Opus 7, one of the most esteemed musical groups anywhere" - Richard Campbell, The Gathering Note, December 2009
Sure on This Shining Night, one of Samuel Barber's most beloved works, captures the special mood of Opus 7's upcoming concert, as the award-winning vocal ensemble honors three major composers - double Pulitzer-prize winners Samuel Barber & William Schuman and the icon of German Romantic lyricism, Robert Schumann - all of whom celebrate major birthdays in 2010.
We also honor the memory of long-time Opus 7 alto Beth Jaureguy with a set of specially chosen works, including pieces by Schubert and Bern Herbolsheimer for alto solo, piano, and choir (with special guests Kathryn Weld, alto and Dwight Beckmeyer, piano). The repertoire ranges from works influenced by jazz & folksongs to classics such as Schubert's Staendchen.
Opus 7 was formed by Loren Ponten in 1992 and features some of the Northwest's finest choral artists. The group is known for its glorious sound, ardent musicality, and innovative programming of late 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century choral repertoire.
