KNOW YOUR MUSHROOMS
Thursday, October 28 at 7:30pm $9 Members / $13 Public (Includes Reception)
Speaker: Long Island Mushroom Farmer DAVID FALKOWSKI
It's a magical mushroom tour departing from the moon (via an amazing adaptation of George Melies's A Trip
To The Moon) and traveling to the mountainous regions of Colorado and the Telluride Mushroom
Festival where mushroom activists Gary Lincoff and Larry Evans advocate the wonders of these miraculous
creations. Mushrooms are collected, cultivated, cataloged and coveted - steamed, stewed, sauted and
simmered against a neo-psychedelic soundtrack and eye-popping effects. Assisted by an enthusiastic,
animated fungus (a really fun guy) we explore the cultural and historic saga of man and his
mushrooms. This trek of global proportions uncovers mushrooms of varied medicinal uses. We are
tempted by the mushroom as an aphrodisiac and mesmerized by vivid tales of its powers as a
hallucinogen. We witness the amazing adaptive properties of mushrooms - some that actually
consume insects, some that absorb petroleum leaked into the ocean (a boon for BP) and still remain
edible - some mushroom that grow to the enormous size of a whale. It's a fascinating documentary
that delivers the cream of mushrooms. - Thom Hoffman USA, 2008, 74 min.; Directed by Ron Mann
Visionaries Gary Lincoff & Larry Evans investigate the miraculous, near-secret world
of mushrooms and lead us on a hunt for the deeper cultural experiences attached to
the mysterious fungi, the oldest & largest living organisms recorded on Earth
