Glenn Gould began his love affair with music at the age of three. A prodigy by 14, he
performed piano concertos with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, mesmerizing audiences
with his technique. His first recording, Bach: The Goldberg Variations (1955), was considered a
bold inauguration and remains a definitive recording. Gould toured the Soviet Union at the height of the
"red scare" performing works of Bach and Beethoven. Gould's musical interpretations were unique
and unforgettable. This powerful documentary looks behind Gould's famous eccentricity, wearing
woolen coats and gloves even in the heat of summer, to discover the real man. Particularly
illuminating are in-depth interviews with Cornelia Foss, who was the great passion of Gould's life and
lived with him for several years. Following this experimenter and innovator through the end of his
short life, this film finely captures the "Genius Within." - Thom Hoffman USA, 2008, 60 min.
