Finest Kind at the Mukilteo Coffee Roasters with opening act Siri Bardarson and Randy Hudson
Finest Kind, the remarkable folk trio from Ottawa, returns to South Whidbey, this time in the quaint and cozy confines of that unique music venue in the woods, the Mukilteo Coffee Roasters. These wonderful singers have filled WICA twice and gained many new fans each time, but scheduling problems have meant that this time around it is going to be a more intimate affair, with only 90 seats available.
Adding another possibility to your evening, the first 30 folks to call for reservations can enjoy dinner before the concert at the attached Café Cabuni, with Chef Jess presiding over the meal. Call 360-321-5270 to see if there is still room. Anyone who misses out on that opportunity can still show up before the concert for wine, beer, and munchy food âÂ" standing room only.
Opening the show with a short set will be local songsters Siri Bardarson and Randy Hudson. This continues a sort of tradition, in that the instrumental group "No Band is an Island" was formed specifically to provide a local opening act for Finest Kind on their first tour to Whidbey in 1998.
Finest Kind puts on a wonderful show. Their beautiful harmonies, tasteful instrumental work, and engaging stage presence are the perfect compliment to the stories that are told in each of their songs. It is a treat for anyone who loves the emotionally moving sound of human voices in close harmony. The Rural Characters have covered a number of their songs, including Tom Walker's solo rendition of "No More Fish, No Fishermen", written by Shelly Posen, the prolific songwriter of the group. Ian Robb's "Homeless Wassail" has been performed at two of WICA's "Figgy Pudding" Christmas Concerts.

From the Finest Kind Website:
Finest Kind is the remarkable folk trio from Ottawa, Canada, whose exquisite harmony singing and brilliant vocal arrangements are bringing a fresh sense of excitement and discovery to the performance of old songs. The trio's glorious sound, served up with easy-going humour, has won a devoted following across North America. Thrills and Chills...Finest Kind's vocal arrangements are a creative tour de force. Tradition-based yet curiously modern, the trio's harmonies are an enchanting feast of opulent chords and ever changing textures. The trio's amazing vocal blend has been called "molecular bonding" by one reviewer: "Any closer," he says, "and they wouldn't be allowed to do it in public." Audiences invariably mention "goosebumps."
