Paco Gomes & Dancers
Paco Gomes and Dancers Present Amor O: A series of new and favorite dance works around the theme of Love. Paco Gomes and guest choreographers Jorge Silva and J. Pazmino explore different aspects and stories of love.
In a new piece, Paco spins a dual layered narrative duet about the life of his late mother. Themes of religion and the exhausting and painful effects of motherhood are contrasted with the deep and unconditional love that Paco and his mother shared. Guest choreographer Jorge Silva worked with Paco Gomes and Dancers for an intensive workshop and rehearsal weekend. In the process he created the beginnings of a large new work, of which the duet section will be shown. Silva'Âs piece deals with familial love and the power struggles that are integral to the dynamics of family interactions. J. Pazmino'Âs piece moves through the inner landscape of a grandmother: her loves, her desires, and the frustration of her physical inability to manifest her feelings. This piece was created for a show of solo works created by company members, and has been well received wherever it is performed. Returning to the stage in Amor O are several of Paco Gomes' favorite pieces of repertory. Love Beyond Body deals with the societal pressures for romantic relationships and the struggle to validate oneÂs sexuality. ÂConflict and ÂTwo Minutes Before a Slap in the Face deal with different ways that loving friends fight and function. Paco may also show excerpts of a new piece that he is creating for the company's upcoming international tour. The piece is a grand scale expose on the wonders and dangers of love between the Orixas. It is an abstract narrative composite of several legends and stories.
