A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor LIVE in HD On the Big Screen
A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor – LIVE in HD
Mark your calendar: A Prairie Home Companion is coming back to the big screen, at a movie theater near you!
The celebrated radio show comes to Arena Theater live via satellite from the Fitzgerald Theater, Minn., on Thursday, October 21 at 8:00 PM, presented by NCM Fathom, Prairie Home Productions, American Public Media and BY Experience.
It's a regular Prairie Home show made for the big screen, featuring the boot-stompin', heart-breakin' songs of Old Crow Medicine Show, the sweet sounds of Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins, some smoldering honky-tonk from Joe Ely and soulful duets with singer-songwriter Andra Suchy. Also performing, The Royal Academy of Radio Actors; Sue Scott, Tim Russell, with both Tom Keith and Fred Newman. Plus a The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band and The News from Lake Wobegon. Two hours of non-stop fun on the big screen.
Responding to the positive reviews of the show earlier this year, Garrison Keillor said:
"I'd be happy to do more of this, now that I know that people like to go to movie theaters and see this. But next time we'll sing some songs with the audience. I like the idea of people standing in multiplexes around the country and singing 'America the Beautiful' and 'My Girl' and 'Ba-ba-ba-ba-barbara Ann.' "
For more than 35 years, legions of fans have tuned in to Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion to be entertained by his low-key reflections, sharp insights, and trademark humor. The popular radio and variety show is known for its musical guests, especially folk and traditional musicians, tongue-in–cheek radio drama, and Keillor's comedic storytelling segment, "The News from Lake Wobegone". Keillor recalls, "When the show started, it was something funny to do with my friends, and then it became an achievement that I hoped would be successful, and now it's a way of life".
Each week, A Prairie Home Companion is heard by more than four million listeners of every age, on more than 600 public radio stations across the country. The show has been host to thousands of guest artists and has been broadcast from Canada, Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Iceland, and nearly each of America's 50 states.
Tickets are available online and at local ticket vendors. The Arena Theater Bar and the snack stand will be open.
