Blockhead & MONO/POLY w/ Ellie Herring
Blockhead
"I'm Blockhead. I was born and raised in downtown manhattan. I make beats. I've worked with a bunch of MC's (lots with Aesop Rock, Murs, Cage, Mike Ladd, and a bunch of others). I also do solo instrumental hip hop type shit on Ninja Tune Records .
My first album "Music By Cavelight" is now approaching triple platinuim and I'm thinking of buying a jet . Both of those statements are incredebly false. But what is true is that I'm also one half of the critically acclaimed (if acclaimed means dispised) Party Fun Action Committee along with my homeslice Jer. It was a comedy album put out by Def Jux. It is also , possibly, the best worst selling album ever made."
MONO/POLY
In defying the laws of tradition, Los Angeles based music producer Mono/Poly (born CharlesDickerson) has managed to outstrip the logics of multi genre producing. Known for his distinct madness of face melting bass, paired with his dreamy astral soundscapes of glitch-based hip-hop, Mono/Poly has proved himself to be a natural phenomenon. His debut album, The George Machine (EP) was released in the fall of 2009 on Faces Records, which was followed by his first full-length solo album Paramatma (Tasteful Licks) in the spring of 2010. In 2011, Mono/Poly released the Manifestations EP, making a strong debut on Brainfeeder Records, and it continues its heavy rotation being played by the likes of Radiohead, Erykah Badu and Jay Scarlett at BBC Radio's 1XTRA. His most recent release is his anticipat- ed full-length album Golden Skies, also released on Brainfeeder in the summer of 2014, and received with the same global recognition and praise we've come to expect from his projects. Mono/Poly also appears on releases from Warp Records and Planet Mu, featured alongside fellow artists Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing. His range has earned him a reputation as a revolutionary producer and gained him vast recognition among listeners and artists alike, yielding collaborations with the likes of Erykah Badu and Kendrick Lamar, both of whom will feature Mono/Poly's signature style and unparalleled grasp of melody and mayhem on their upcoming albums. He continues to perform his live sets across the globe having covered Greece, Switzerland, France and Lithuania, in addition to his steady touring in the US.
Ellie Herring
Lexington, Kentucky-based artist Ellie Herring has been on a steady rise in the past year. April marked her third release, Chipped EP (Racecar), a smooth, spaced-out 4-song EP featuring cut up samples buried in drony beats. Since then she's released a series of singles featuring on Gorilla vs Bear, The 405, and inclusion on the first Secret Songs compilation; as well as issuing a mix for SSENSE and landing in NME's November 2014 issue. She is currently working on her next EP, set for early 2015.
