The Sports Salon with Art Thiel and Mike Gastineau
The NCAA men's basketball tournament, March Madness, returns to Seattle this year for the first time since 2004. Eight college teams and their fans will travel to Seattle March 20-22 to compete for berths in the four regional tournaments the following weekend. But the Final Four, an event Seattle nearly owned with championships in 1984, 1989 and 1995, will never return without an indoor stadium. And the NBA won't be back without an arena.
The proposed SoDo arena project by Chis Hansen is in limbo, and the NHL seems eager to fill the market void with hockey, perhaps by building an arena in Bellevue or Tukwila. How did we get here and what are the civic choices?
Join us for a casual conversation with Art Thiel and Mike Gastineau, who know the local sports scene like no others.
Art Thiel is longtime sports commentator for KPLU-FM and columnist for the late Seattle Post-Intelligencer. His digital sports news company, Sportspress Northwest, recently published his new book Russell Wilson: Standing Tall. Mike Gastineau was "The Voice of Reason" on Sports Radio KJR 950 for more than 20 years and recently published a book, Sounders FC: Authentic Masterpiece, on the astonishing creation and successful rise of Seattle Sounders FC.
Schedule: 5:00pm: Networking, Happy Hour beverages, and complimentary appetizers 5:45pm: Art Thiel and Mike Gastineau share stories and insights 6:15pm: Q&A
