State of Readiness: Physical Theatre Acting Intensive with Song of the Goat Theatre (Fri/Sat/Sun Workshop)
In collaboration with Paloma Street Studio, straight from their performances at Yale, Rafał Habel and Julianna Bloodgood of Teatr Pieśń Kozła (Song of the Goat Theatre), will lead two workshops for Los Angeles artists. Physical at their core and ensemble based, these workshops are an in-depth exploration of the relationship between body, voice, text and music; otherwise known as the "Coordination Technique". Through a physical approach to acting training, we seek to reveal an honest and authentic body whereby revealing the actor's inner-life and enlivening the entire creative process. We will explore how sound is derived and experienced through our muscles, bones and the "energetic system" creating a voice and body that is open and free, expressive and capable of communicating emotional truth. Our work aims to develop a deep sense of listening and responsiveness to the impulses that arise within one's own body and from the collective ensemble. The manifestation of the work is dynamic, contemplative and entirely musical. This workshop contributes to the classical actor's technique, theatre or film by awakening a sense of internal and external rhythm, working with physical impulse, spatial awareness and focus. Each exercise will deepen body's connection to impulses and stimulus and gradually interconnect all aspects of the craft - which is the core of Coordination technique.
