Foggy Hogtown Boys
The Foggy Hogtown Boys have become a Canadian bluegrass and roots music institution. Their sound has influenced what's become a vibrant and youthful bluegrass scene in this country. From the band's legendary 15 year residency at Toronto's Silver Dollar Room; tours across Canada, the US, Europe and Israel; teaching instrumental workshops across the county; as well as individually recording as sidemen on hundreds of of albums, it is fair to say they have made their mark.
2015 finds The Foggy Hogtown Boys (Andrew Collins, Chris Coole, Max Heineman, Chris Quinn and John Showman) releasing their seventh album Animals, Insects, and People. The new album, recorded mostly live, rings with a looseness and maturity of a band that has nothing to prove, but a whole lot to say. Strong original material, creative arrangements of traditional bluegrass and old-time, and well chosen covers (Justin Townes Earl, Roger Miller, Ralph Stanley) make for an engaging program.
Despite the band's high level of musicianship, they have always leaned away from the slick and polished sound of modern bluegrass, favoring a more weird, wild and funky approach to the genre. On stage, their personal chemistry shines through, with a shared sense of humour and fun that is infectious. Over the years their style has helped them win a dedicated following, both from within the bluegrass community and beyond.
Hermann's Jazz Club is the perfect intimate venue to showcase Victoria's favourite bluegrass band. Get your tickets early - it's sure to sell out.
