Bill Anschell Trio
Bill Anschell will be joined by bassist Chris Symer and drummer/percussionist Jeff "Bongo" Busch.
In the last few years the group has toured Peru and Paraguay, and Anschell reached out to audiences there by arranging traditional music from each country. Those pieces have become a regular part of the trio's repertoire along with Anschell's originals, unusual arrangements of American Songbook material and Beatles songs, and spontaneous renditions of jazz standards.
Anschell, a veteran pianist and composer, is a three-time winner of the "Northwest Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year" award administered by Earshot Jazz. He toured Europe six times as pianist/musical director for vocalist Nnenna Freelon, and has toured South America seven times, dating back to 1998.
Symer is a transplant from Southern California, where as a top-call bassist he worked with greats including Roger Kellaway, Kim Richmond and Tierney Sutton.
Busch is an exuberant drummer/percussionist, vocalist, and composer who is a fixture on the Seattle jazz, gospel, and Latin jazz scenes. His approach is strongly flavored by the music he studied and performed while living for an extended period in Brazil.
