Foraged Medicinals
California is home to a diverse array of medicinal plants long valued for their therapeutic effects. In this entertaining and lively presentation local natural medicine expert Tellur Fenner will explore many of the more common (and lesser known) plants used in Western American herbalism, focusing on historical as well as modern use. Preparation methods, harvesting ethics, and botanical safety issues will also be addressed. As part of the demonstration, a variety of botanical extracts will be passed around for those interested in sampling. Anyone curious about the healing potential of our local flora will find this class insightful and empowering.
Instructor Tellur Fenner is the owner of Blue Wind Botanical Medicine Clinic, Oakland, CA. He is a clinical herbalist/educator and has traveled the country extensively while studying, collecting, and using plant medicines from all the major U.S. bioregions. He has attended the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine, the American School of Herbalism, the California School of Herbal Studies, and is currently completing the final year of a self-designed bachelor's degree in clinical botanical medicine through Prescott College. As an herbalist of the generalist persuasion, he believes in the importance of an interdisciplinary practice which integrates botany, pharmacy, physiology, and other medical sciences. He has taught classes for the Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Berkeley, CA, San Francisco Botanical Garden, TrackersBay, Gardens at Heather Farm in Walnut Creek, CA, Point Reyes Field Seminars, and a number of other venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
