PubliCola Debate: Privatize Liquor Sales?
Washington State Initiatives 1100 and 1105 would close state liquor stores and privatize the distribution, importation, and sales of liquor. Proponents argue that efficiencies of the free market will save money for both the state and for consumers. Opponents counter that the initiatives will cost the state a reliable revenue stream and diminish controls on sales resulting in more consumption, more drunk driving, more underage drinking, and more crime. PubliCola's Josh Feit and Erica C. Barnett moderate a debate with representatives from each side. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and the RealNetworks Foundation.
