Internationally acclaimed Gamelan Sekar Jaya returns to the stage at Rhythmix Cultural Works under the direction of two outstanding Balinese artists -- renowned dancer I Ketut Wirtawan, and gamelan maestro Ida Bagus Made Widnyana -- this Bay Area-based group will bring the music and dance of Bali to this unique Alameda space. The vibrant gong kebyar and angklung ensembles will perform, accompanied by the enchanting beauty of Balinese dance.
Gamelan Sekar Jaya (GSJ) is a sixty-member company of musicians and dancers, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in the performing arts of Bali. Founded in 1979, Gamelan Sekar Jaya has performed throughout California, the US, and Bali in venues ranging from New York's Symphony Space to remote village squares in Bali.
