A poetry slam is a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience. The content and styles are as diverse as the people of our great city.
Top finishers in the grand slam will represent The Pigeon and Philadelphia at the National Poetry Slam!
Come perform, watch or judge.
Poets wishing to compete should arrive at 8:30 to put their names in the hat. All poets who put their name in the hat pay half price. At 9:00 poets names will be picked out of the hat.

The Pigeon* is excited to announce this month's feature and workshop** leader:
ELIZABETH ACEVEDO was born and raised in New York City. She holds a BA in Performing Arts from The George Washington University and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Maryland. Acevedo has been published in The Acentos Review, The Ostrich Review, and Callaloo. She has been a featured performer on BET and Mun2, as well as Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, and the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts.
She is currently the 2014 Beltway Grand Slam Champion and the Women of the World Poetry Slam representative for Washington DC. She lives and works as a writing instructor and teaching artist throughout the DC region.
