Jesse Colin Young
Jesse Colin Young, critically acclaimed solo artist and lead singer of the legendary classic rock band, The Youngbloods (1960s) and the Jesse Colin Young Band (1970s) took the nation by storm when the single Get Together became a worldwide Top 10 hit and a prominent soundtrack for peace.
Jesse, known for his beautiful tenor voice and strong guitar accompaniment, started his career in Greenwich Village with the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Always ready to push the musical genre of the day, he formed The Youngbloods and when Get Together topped the charts in 1967, he moved his family and band to San Francisco during the Summer of Love. Naturally Jesse ran in circles with the Grateful Dead, The Jefferson Starship and the Haight-Ashbury set. The Youngbloods also performed at LA'Âs Whiskey A Go Go, where Janis Joplin, a true fan, would hang out in his dressing room listening to his music.
From the tumultuous sixties to the seventies Jesse's career grew and he began to tour with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers and Billy Joel. His style was more jazz-fusion rock and his theme was back to nature. He shared his musicians with Van Morrison who was headed in the same direction. During the eighties Jesse joined forces with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, David Bromberg and started the No Nukes movement through concerts for change, the first solar powered concerts ever played.
Jesse has continued on this musical path to this day, playing for earthquake victims, Vietnam Vets, environmental issues and for children's needs.
In October 1995, when a forest fire engulfed his Ridgetop property in the Bay Area and completely destroyed the family home and business, Jesse moved to Hawaii with his wife Connie and their two children.
In 2005, Artemis Records released The Very Best of Jesse Colin Young, 34 songs covering 40 years of singing and songwriting, and recently Jesse has released several tracks on iTunes, including the inspiring Bring 'em Home.
