WDC Benefit Concert "Sounds Wild" - Highlighting voices and sounds in nature as the original composers of Rhythms The Women's Drum Center is proud to announce their Annual Benefit Concert titled "SOUNDS WILD". It will be held on Saturday May 16, 2015 at Augsburg College, in Sateren Auditorium (Anderson Music Building) from 7 to 9 pm. It is their 12th year of hosting an annual concert.
This concert benefits the nonprofit parent organization. The event includes a silent auction and concert. Doors open at 6:00 pm for the silent auction and the concert is from 7-9 pm.
This concert highlights how drumming rhythms from around the world are found in Nature. Sometimes the rhythms are from the voice of a bird, the sounds of a river, or the pattern of ice cracking on the surface of a lake. These connections will be demonstrated with a variety of dynamic and fun, instruments, world drum music pieces and interesting arrangements designed by Women and the community involved at the Women's Drum Center. Pieces that will be performed have names such as, Playing in the Meadow, River Ladies, "City Streets" , Serengeti, Cracking Ice. Also featured will be dancer Laura Randall
The Women's Drum Center's Executive Director, Marisa Cuneo-Linsly, states that, "we as drummers love to connect to the root of the music we enjoy both in terms of their traditions and the original composers... which sometimes comes from nature. Percussion is about sounds that surround us and putting those sounds into moments and patterns within a arrangement that turns into a beautiful drum piece."
Tickets for the concert are available at www.brownpapertickets.com, and the day of the concert. Ticket Prices in advance: Adults: $15. Ticket Prices at the door: Adults: $20, Seniors/Students: $12, Family: $30 ( 2 adults / 3 children) Children 5 and under: Free. The mission of the Women's Drum Center is to provide opportunities for women and girls to learn, teach, and play percussion together and to energize the community at large through our performing. World music is emphasized at the center.
