Sediment Club: skronky No New York reincarnated, Eszter Balint: groundbreaking Squat Theater vocalist/violinist, and Command V: Cynthia Sley and Pat Irwin's bold new departure!
Eszter Balint is an experimental composer/violinist, a member of the seminal avant-garde Squat Theatre, a group of artists, actors, writers and musicians from Budapest, who were expelled from Hungary in the early 1970s for their Radical Aesthetic ideas. They settled in New York, opening a storefront theatre on West 23rd Street in Chelsea which became the locus of the young avant-punk movement, producing the now-legendary productions 'Pig! Child! Fire!' and 'Mr. Death & Mrs. Free', as well as becoming the home base of such experimental musical acts as The Lounge Lizards, Sun Ra, DNA, James Chance, and Defunkt. Balint also starred in Jim Jarmisch's influential film, 'Stranger Than Paradise'.
Chris Cochrane is one of the most unique and inventive musicians to come out of New York City's long-running 'Downtown' scene, has worked with a number of bands (including the legendary prog unit NO SAFETY, which he co-founded with harpist Zeena Parkins) and has played live and/or recorded with John Zorn, Bongwater, Fred Frith, Mike Patton, Marc Ribot, and Ikue Mori. Cochrane composed the score for, and is currently working on remounting Dennis Cooper's 'Them' (1986), directed by Ishmael Houston-Jones, which will be presented at PS 122 in October 2010... Door proceeds to benefit The Actors Fund for HOWL! HELP.
